Bill Gates is a member in the capacity of this body, advising the Chinese government on technological conflicts. Another venture is that he was involved in trying to develop a nuclear reactor program in China that had military applications.


Of course, the Trump administration intervened in 2018 and said no, you can't do that. You could apply this to submarines and other things, and at that point Bill Gates just kind of explained how disappointed he was and he hoped that at some point in the future he could go back and develop this nuclear technology with Beijing. So it is a bizarre relationship and a troubling relationship, and it goes to the heart, I think, of what we talked about Bill Gates earlier.


It is not about Gates getting more money from China. I think what he craves is the kind of prestige of association, the fact that this powerful leader is listening to him and he's either naïve or doesn't care about the political and military implications of what he's doing."
