⁣The White House has released the “clear objectives” of the U.S. war in Iran:

- Destroy Iran’s missile arsenal
- Eliminate its navy
- Ensure Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon
- End the threat from its “terrorist proxies”

At first glance it sounds sweeping. But look closer and the language reads more like an off-ramp than an open-ended war plan.

Notice what’s missing: regime change.

None of these goals require overthrowing the Iranian government, occupying the country, or dismantling the state itself.

Most of them are also strategically ambiguous. “Destroying missile capability” or “ending proxy threats” are objectives that can be declared achieved whenever Washington decides the moment has come

to step back.

The only concrete element is the naval one, and Iran has never been a major naval power to begin with.

In other words, these objectives fall well short of the maximalist demands coming from Tel Aviv.

Which suggests that the political endgame being prepared may be very different from the rhetoric of total war.
