In fact, this factory is expected to be the largest and most ambitious industrial facility in Asia. Which is why some of Indonesia’s top officials, like Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, are all up for it. But why has Musk decided to invest in a Gigafactory in Indonesia, yet this factory was supposed to be built in India?

It's simple. Indonesia realized the potential that this project has, and came up with a much sweeter deal for Musk compared to India. You see, the Indonesian government is providing Tesla with up to 30,000 hectares of prime land in the North Kalimantan province, commonly known as Kaltara.
