General Motors Company is the largest American manufacturer known for its core brands such as Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac. In spite of their storied history, CEO Mary Barra revealed that GM was involved in a major lawsuit in the state of California.

Numerous vehicles manufactured by GM have been prone to severe defects and have also been the subject of recalls, technical service bulletins, and lawsuits.
A class-action lawsuit was filed against GM over claims of defects in the automaker's 8-speed automatic transmission used in particular 2015-2019 rear-wheel-drive vehicles. Vehicle owners have complained of violent shakes or hard shifts when selecting a gear with the 8L90 or 8L45 automatic transmission.
GM has issued 13 technical service bulletins regarding the transmission defect and drivers have filed numerous complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Difficulty stopping, low transmission fluid, excessive wear, delayed acceleration, slipping gears, and aggressive gear changes are common symptoms associated with 8L45 and 8L90 transmission problems.
These conditions can be particularly dangerous for GM drivers because they directly impact the ability to control the vehicles’ acceleration and speed, greatly increasing the risk of an accident.
Repairing 2018 Silverado transmission problems or those of another GM vehicle can be costly. A complete replacement of the transmission can cost well above $3,000.
Some GM drivers have opted for transmission fluid changes to solve their vehicles' problems, which can cost over $300. According to official complaints from consumers, many GM owners have made multiple transmission fluid changes to their vehicles only to find that they continued to break down.
