Mary Barra, GM’s CEO, is bullish about her company’s future. But with the EV boom and Tesla dominating the market, many people have become skeptical about GM’s status as a leading automaker. In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Barra was complimented on GM’s 2022 earnings results with Andy Serwer, the interviewer, calling the most recent report a “nice, strong, solid quarter.”

But the fact that GM's sales figures were even stable last quarter is a real head-scratcher. GM and its competitors have been able to raise prices considerably for customers due to industry-wide supply shortages. Even if raw material costs continue to rise, GM's revenue can rise or remain steady due to its improved pricing power.

But this small victory doesn’t tell the full story of GM’s dire situation. As a result of continued supply-chain issues that disrupted manufacturing and kept dealers' inventories tight, GM's 2022 first-quarter U.S. sales declined 20% year over year, as expected by analysts.
