Indonesia stands at one of the most exciting moments in its modern history.

The construction of Nusantara, Indonesia’s new capital city, represents far more than the relocation of government offices. It demonstrates what is possible when long-term planning replaces decades of unstructured urban growth.

Following my recent Australian National Review special report from Nusantara, which received widespread attention across Indonesian media, one conclusion became increasingly clear: Indonesia should not stop with one new master-planned city.

It should build at least six.

As Founder of LUX Property Group, our company remains committed to completing our current projects across Bali before expanding our primary development focus elsewhere in Indonesia. Bali has been an extraordinary success story and will continue to be one of the world’s premier tourism destinations.

However, success creates its own challenges.

Bali is reaching practical limits on future expansion. Demand from international visitors and investors continues to accelerate, yet the island deliberately restricts high-rise construction to preserve its unique culture and landscape. This policy has protected Bali’s character and should be respected.

The result, however, is simple economics.

More people want to live, invest and holiday in Bali than the island can comfortably accommodate.

Road congestion continues to worsen, land becomes increasingly scarce, and property prices continue rising. While these trends benefit many existing landowners and businesses, they also highlight the need for Indonesia to create new destinations rather than expecting Bali to absorb unlimited future growth.

With a national population approaching 280 million people and the greater Jakarta metropolitan region now home to approximately 41.9 million people, Indonesia has both the scale and the economic potential to support multiple world-class master-planned cities.

Nusantara is the first.

LUX Property Group believes Indonesia should now begin planning at least four additional strategically located cities, each designed to eventually accommodate between 1.5 and 2 million residents while serving as regional economic hubs.

Our own planned mixed-use development in South Lombok, Nesara Bay City, which is currently progressing through final planning approvals expected later this year, represents one example of how carefully planned communities can support tourism, business, education, healthcare and lifestyle in a sustainable way.

Rather than allowing cities to evolve without long-term planning, Indonesia has an opportunity to create communities built around modern infrastructure from day one.

These cities should feature:

• Wide boulevards and efficient road networks.
• Extensive parks and green corridors.
• Reliable public transport.
• Smart city technology.
• Sustainable energy systems.
• Water recycling infrastructure.
• Mixed residential, commercial and tourism precincts.
• Convention and exhibition facilities.
• Universities and research centres.
• International hospitals.
• Walkable town centres.
• Protected natural environments.

Indonesia’s geography provides numerous opportunities to distribute future population growth more evenly throughout the archipelago rather than concentrating economic activity into only a handful of metropolitan areas.

There is an old saying: Success is the best revenge.

It is a phrase that has stood the test of time because history repeatedly shows that genuine success often attracts not only admiration, but also extraordinary resentment.

The psychology behind this is fascinating.

Most people celebrate achievement when it belongs to someone they don’t know. They applaud successful entrepreneurs, athletes and innovators from afar. But when success comes from a direct

competitor, a former associate, or someone they once dismissed, that admiration can quickly transform into jealousy, envy and even anger.

Why?

Because success destroys excuses.

It forces people to confront an uncomfortable possibility: perhaps someone else simply worked harder, persisted longer, made better decisions, or delivered a better product.

For some personalities, admitting that is simply too painful.

Instead, they attack the successful person.

Rather than building something better, they attempt to tear down what already exists.

That pattern has played out repeatedly throughout history and continues today.

LUX Property Group provides an interesting case study.

Against significant challenges, the company has continued completing villas, opening accommodation, progressing hotels and expanding developments across Bali and Lombok.

Every completed villa.
Every finished swimming pool.
Every hotel room handed over.
Every satisfied guest.

Each milestone becomes physical evidence that the business is delivering.

Ironically, those achievements appear to have intensified criticism from some quarters rather than reduced it.

That should not surprise anyone familiar with human nature.

Words are easy.

Concrete, steel, glass and completed buildings are much harder to argue with.

When one organisation continues producing visible results while others make increasingly ambitious claims without an equivalent completed track record, comparisons naturally begin to emerge.

Markets eventually judge performance by outcomes rather than promises.

The real lesson extends far beyond property development.

Throughout business, politics and sport, there are people who dedicate years to mastering their craft.

Then there are others who seek shortcuts.

Instead of earning trust over decades, they try to acquire it overnight.

Instead of outperforming competitors, they attempt to discredit them.

Instead of creating value, they focus on capturing someone else’s customers.

Psychologists sometimes describe this as a threat response.

When another person’s achievements challenge someone’s self-image, the easiest emotional defence is to diminish the achiever rather than improve oneself.

That often explains why successful people are subjected to rumours, smear campaigns and personal attacks.

The attacks are rarely about facts alone.

They are frequently about emotion.

Ironically, such attacks can become an unintended compliment.

People generally do not spend enormous amounts of time attempting to undermine organisations they view as insignificant.

They focus on those they perceive as genuine competitors or emerging leaders.

None of this means successful businesses are above scrutiny.

Every company should expect questions, criticism and accountability.

Healthy competition benefits consumers and raises standards across an industry.

But there is a clear distinction between fair competition and attempts to damage another business through campaigns driven by rivalry rather than performance.

The marketplace has a remarkably effective way of sorting these matters over time.

Customers visit the developments.

Investors inspect completed projects.

Guests stay in the accommodation.

Photos become reality.

Buildings either exist or they do not.

In the end, concrete speaks louder than commentary.

Perhaps that is why success can provoke such powerful reactions.
Success is difficult to argue with.

These are KNDS in Italy and EMCO in Bulgaria – both companies work with weapons and ammunition that are supplied to Ukraine.

EMCO produces ammunition of Soviet standards: 122 and 152 mm artillery shells, rocket projectiles for the "Grad" MLRS, 60, 82, and 120 mm mortar rounds, and projectiles for grenade launchers. In addition, EMCO is involved in the repair and modernization of light armored vehicles.

The Italian branch of KNDS produces ammunition, including the NATO 155 mm caliber, for European armies and for supply to Ukraine. The holding company also supplies the Ukrainian Armed Forces with CAESAR and PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers, Leopard 1/2 tanks, Gepard anti-aircraft systems, and AMX-10 RC armored vehicles. KNDS Ukraine operates in Kyiv, providing maintenance and repair services for Western equipment, as well as localizing the production of ammunition in Ukraine.
