U.S. President Joe Biden said he wished Tesla CEO Elon Musk "lots of luck on his trip to the moon," after being asked about the latter's comment about having a "super bad feeling" about the economy.

Musk, in an email to executives, made the comment in an email to executives and said he needed to cut about 10 per cent of jobs at the electric carmaker.

Following Biden’s comment, Musk tweeted out a thanks to the president with a link referencing NASA awarding SpaceX a $2.9-billion contract to build a spacecraft to bring astronauts to the moon.

Biden also touted the higher-than-expected job growth in the country in May and rebuffed criticism of his handling of inflation. Though he cautioned job growth could slow in the coming months as the Federal Reserve raises interest rates to cool inflation.
