Elon Musk Just FOUGHT BACK To China After Threat Of Blowing Starlink!

Beijing accused Elon Musk back in 2021 of irresponsible and dangerous space behavior following two "close encounters" between the Chinese space station and satellites launched by SpaceX.

According to a memorandum sent by Beijing to the United Nations space agency, Tiangong, China's new space station, had to move to avoid colliding with one Starlink satellite in July and another in October of 2021.
According to the report, the accidents "posed a risk to the life or health of astronauts aboard the China Space Station."

"The United States... disregards its international treaty commitments, posing a severe threat to the lives and safety of astronauts," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhao Lijian during a routine briefing back in 2021.

Starlink, a branch of SpaceX, manages a constellation of nearly 2,000 satellites with the goal of providing internet connectivity to the majority of the planet.

According to Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, evasive maneuvers to lessen the risk of collisions in space are becoming increasingly common as more objects join Earth's orbit.
"We've witnessed a significant rise in the amount of close passes since Starlink was installed," he told AFP.

According to McDowell, any collision would "totally devastate" the Chinese space station and kill everyone on board.

The core module of China's Tiangong station, which translates as "heavenly palace," entered orbit earlier this year and is scheduled to become fully operational next year.

Beijing's protest about Starlink spurred criticism of SpaceX's billionaire creator Musk, who is immensely adored in China, on Chinese social media.

On the Twitter-like Weibo site, one hashtag regarding the matter received 90 million views on Tuesday.

"How ironic that Chinese consumers buy Tesla, providing significant sums of money to Musk's Starlink launch, and then he (almost) smashes into China's space station," one user said.

Tesla, Musk's electric car company, sells tens of thousands of automobiles in China each month, however, the company's reputation has suffered this year as a result of a series of mishaps, controversies, and data security worries.

"Get ready to boycott Tesla," another Weibo user warned, reflecting a common Chinese reaction to foreign brands considered to be operating against national interests.

Chinese government researchers are urging the deployment of anti-satellite weapons against Elon Musk's SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet constellation, claiming the broadband system's possible military applications and threat to China's national security.

Starlink is made up of thousands of satellites in near-Earth orbit that are linked to ground terminals to provide consumers with high-speed internet access. Starlink is a sturdy and resilient system with over 2,300 satellites in service, capable of working even if some of its satellites were removed.
